4/15/2023 2 Comments Hollow knight noskThere is even some design elements between the two you can draw and assume are changed due to the infection changing the body. As well as bugs getting larger and developing new abilities like spraying their infection.īasically? Nosk is a heavily infected, warped Corpse Creeper. We’ve already established behaviors can change or take on a new form. A slightly more realistic manipulation of emotions- but Nosk is Infected pretty heavily. That’s a different form of the same tactic used by Nosk. Both groups are infected at this point, but if done with normal bugs this would basically work by having Hallownest bugs go “Hey! Normal not-spider bugs! Lets go with them!” There are normal husks in Deepnest (The plan wouldn’t work otherwise) but consider that maybe those husks are there because the disguised Corpse Creepers specifically hang other with them. Husks are the common bug, remember- so they aren’t just trying to look like a weak enemy, they’re trying to look like a normal, friendly Hallownest bug that just happens to be in Deepnest. Like Nosk, they disguise themselves as lesser enemies- specifically husks. And you probably never thought much about them- but they actually match Nosk a lot on a simple level. ![]() You actually see an enemy that takes the form of a recognizable bug, works off of the element of surprise and has spines, long legs, makes scary noises and moves fast. See, in Deepnest- long before you encounter Nosk. Behaviorally there’s still some resemblance, many infected creatures still go about preforming tasks like mining mindlessly.īut this is a pretty significant part of this theory- because if we have behaviors to go off, and know that they might not align perfectly… we actually have what might be the original Nosk in game. In most cases we don’t see those bend to strongly, but its not out of the realm of possibility. An infected creature can be morphologically changed, and adopt new behaviors that don’t match it’s old ones. Change in combat behavior (All the husks in the crossroad adopt new tactics) ![]() Venom or Acid Spray (Wandering Husk > Slobbering Husk) Massive Size Increase (Vengefly > Furious Vengefly) ![]() Infected creatures can get warped pretty severely, although they usually bear some resemblance to their original forms, some of the infected traits we see from the transformation of the Crossroads are: So whys that important? Well- Nosk is infected. Pretty effective hunting as it means the prey will likely not even be an active threat once you go for the kill. The Hunter’s journal outright state that Nosk “wears faces stolen from your memories and pluck at the strings of your heart” so there’s an emotional element along with the element of surprise. Being in the nest is already an advantage, but there’s also a psychological level to that kind of manipulation that probably serves to help stun or emotionally incapacitate their prey. Nosk is a mimic- they take the form of other creatures, namely friends or family of their intended target, to get their prey to travel deeper into their nest. This is where we really get something to build off for theory-crafting. Not much to go off of.Īs stated, Nosk has some pretty big set up. He could be unique as the only Nosk you encounter, or they’re just the Nosk. Nosk is just Nosk in the game, not Infected Nosk, or Enraged Nosk, etc- so their boss status really doesn’t point either way. Vengeflies are a species, Mawleks and Mawlurks are closely related if not just different forms of the same species. ![]() However, these are also from families of established species. You fight them several times even though they do represent a higher difficulty or special enemy. There are exceptions- the Vengefly Kings or Brooding Mawlek are examples of repeat bosses we see in Hollow Knight. Boss status would suggest Nosk is unique in some matter- that you’re not just gonna find wandering Nosks in Deepnest because, as a boss, Nosk represents something unique. Theres only one Soul Master, only one Uumuu, only one Godtamer, etc. Now, being a full boss is a pretty big thing. The set up is what really gives a bit to work with in trying to figure out what exactly might be up with them. Namely that they serve as a boss, and one with pretty good set up. The first thing that really needs to be established is Nosk’s place in the story. So this is a question thats been bounced around a few times that really might not have a set answer, but since my specialty is analysis of minor things people don’t care about like the biology of having a large head- here’s a theory on What The Hell Is Up With NoskĪs with everything, I keep it under a readmore for everyone’s dashboard convenience
